So I’ve been pretty quiet the last month and thats my fault. I’ve been adjusting to a big change at work and in my free time I’ve been working hard over at Millionaire Geeks. You may have seen my earlier post talking about the first issue of our Newsletter going out. The first issue of MANA was a success. MANA is actually more than Just a newsletter, it’s really an E-Zine focusing on geeks and geek culture. We’re already hard at work on next months issue and it should be even better. Sign up now so you don’t forget and miss the next awesome issue.
Aside from all that excitement theres been a lot of news brewing around. Of course the HUGE thing is McCain Choosing Sarah Palin as his VP. Thats a whole post by itself and not everyone is going to want to hear my thrilling political commentary so I’ll just make a separate post about that when the opportunity arises. All I’ll say on the matter for now is I think it was smart on McCain’s part, and I think she’s a strong candidate. The first thought I had when he announced her as his VP was “McCain just changed the rules of the game” and honestly I think it threw everyone a bit off balance. The Dem’s and the Media’s immediate and extreme attack on her thats taken place is evidence of the fact she’s a dangerous wild card in this election, and I think she scares them with her potential to shake things up. She’s got a lot going for her, many of her qualities make her attractive to female voters (and not just because she’s a woman) and she can potentially tap those voters looking for change who may be becoming unsure of Obama. Her biggest strength is that she appears genuine and “real” to many people which most politicians lack. However There are legitimate concerns, and legitimate questions to be asked. She’s a new face on the scene and how she will tilt the scales in the long run remains to be seen. Personally I’m interested and I’m curious to see how it all plays out. As I said earlier I’ll make a much more detailed post about this and the various sides of the issue later on.
Now that that’s out of the way We can talk about other stuff.
I think I’m gonna have to elaborate on this later as well but HOLY CRAP have you seen the newest pics from the Dragon Ball movie? WTF? Why isn’t Piccolo green? A Better question may be why they felt the need to make this at all. I mean when I first heard about this (obviously brilliant) idea the only thing I could think of was it’s going to be like two hours of me sitting in the dark watching a bunch of grown men run around posing and screaming with far too much wire fu, and once in a while saying things like “I’m powering up!” or “HAHAHA you think you’ve won well I’m only using 1% of my true power!”. Of course they didn’t do quite as much of that foolishness in Dragon Ball as they did in the follow up Dragon Ball Z so maybe I’m wrong but somehow I doubt it. Don’t get me wrong I love Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z but somehow I just don’t see this translating well to live action. It’s going to look stupid (nimbus in live action?), it’s going to seem contrived and fake, and worst of all I just know the script is going to be like a bunch of 14 year olds wrote it.
In less depressing news it seems a British researcher thinks he has found the island of Ithaca from Homer’s “The Odyssey”. This is actually quite a fascinating story. You can read more about it here. Now I know you’re going to say “But Jim, there already is an island named Ithaca it’s on all the maps and everything!”. Yeah I know that, but seriously dude read the Odyssey. The modern day Ithaca on the maps doesn’t match any of the descriptions from Homer’s work. But yeah go read the article it’s neat stuff.
Anyways thats all for now. I’ll see all you crazy cats on the other side of the night…. or something like that.
(please don’t actually shoot me btw)
